1. Define and analyze pluralism, elite theory, bureaucratic theory, and social movement theory. Make a case for each as being the primary place where power lies in American politics, and then tell me where you really think the power lies and why.
2. Tell me about the concept of “self-rule”. Give two examples of how England violated the colonists’ “self-rule”.
3. What were the major changes from the Articles of Confederation to the Constitution? What problems did the framers “fix”? In the long run – that is, in the modern era (i.e., 2021) – are we still grappling with these problems? Thoroughly explain and provide real-world context and examples.
4. When the framers gave presidents the “executive power,” what do you think they meant? What, in your opinion, are the proper limits of executive power? Be sure to cite instances where presidents, in your view, have exceeded their executive powers.
5. Define the three dimensions of Power. Is there a 4th? If so, define it as well. Be sure to provide real-world, political examples of each; they can be hypothetical.
6. Name something you learned during the first two chapters that you did not know previously and found interesting.
