The three major principles of nutrition are balance, variety, and moderation. However, some individual’s perception of healthy eating is quite extreme. For example, orthorexia is an eating disorder characterized by an unhealthy obsession with eating the “right” way. Like many eating disorders, orthorexia can lead to severe malnutrition. Watch the news clip below about orthorexia, then discuss the following questions: 1) How is orthorexia different then anorexia nervosa or other eating disorders? 2) At what point do you think “healthy eating” becomes unhealthy? 3) How can you prevent yourself from falling into these “extreme eating” behaviors?
